Managing the Risk of Foodborne Hazards:STECs & Antibiotic Resistant Pathogens

January 25 2011

The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) are partnering on a one day conference, January 25, 2011 in Washington, D.C. to discuss the growing problems of antibiotic resistant pathogens and emerging strains of shiga-toxin producing E. coli (STECs) in our food supply. The conference will gather experts to discuss current science, knowledge gaps, public health implications, and practical solutions.  Recommendations from the conference will be captured in a white paper that summarizes the discussions and specific recommendations to enhance the collaborative response to emerging foodborne hazards for federal agencies and other stakeholders. Bill Marler will be on a panel discussing public health impact of STECs in food.
