Kindercare E. coli Outbreak - Illinois
Twenty one children and one adult were infected ill with E. coli O157:H7 at a Chicago-area Kindercare in February of 2009 that was traced to poor handwashing. Three children were hospitalized as a result of their E. coli infections, but were later released. In response to the outbreak, Kindercare sanitized the facility at 12404 Archer Avenue, hired extra staff to monitor handwashing, and added a nurse to the staff.
